How to Apply for your Missouri Caregiver's License
So you’ve decided to help fellow MMJ patients, and make a little money while you’re at it? Congratulations! But before you start growing for your patients, you’ll need to make it legal with the state by becoming a licensed caregiver. You can register as a caregiver for up to three medical marijuana patients. The process for each patient will be the same, and should only take you about 15-20 minutes to complete.
The caregiver application is located in the same place as the regular patient application you should have already filled out. You’ll need to log back in using the username (your email) and password you selected. If you don’t remember your password, there is an option to reset it by clicking “forgot password.”
Once you’re logged in, you’ll click on “create new application,” then select “new caregiver registration.” You will need to have your patient’s full legal name and license number (located on the bottom of their Patient Identification Card) handy.
When DHSS asks you questions about your cultivation center for your patient, make sure you answer honestly and are in compliance with state regulations. If you are growing indoors, specify that you are growing in a private, locked room in your house, and be sure to explain you will be the only one with access to the room. If you are growing outside, make sure the grow is completely enclosed on all four sides and is not visible from your neighbor’s property.
In the “documents” section you will be asked to upload a recent color photo of your face. DHSS requests that the picture have a neutral, white background, and that you do not wear a hat or sunglasses. You will also need to upload a copy of your state ID or driver’s license. Finally, you will need to upload a signed patient authorization form. This form is completed and signed by your patient.
In the last step, you will be prompted to pay the state of Missouri. You will need to pay $25 for your caregiver’s license. If you plan on growing 18 plants for your patient, you will be charged an additional $100 fee for your cultivation license. Many caregivers will split the licensing costs with their patients, but it is up to you and your patient to decide how to handle these fees. Be prepared to pay a couple extra dollars to the state in the form of card processing fees.
The state will approve or reject your application within 30 days, and will notify you via email. If your application is rejected, you will have only 10 days to make corrections before resubmitting it, so be sure to check your email regularly. Once you have your license, you are ready to start growing for your patients!
