How to Renew Your Missouri Medical Marijuana Card
Take a look at your medical marijuana card - are you nearing your card’s expiration date? The renewal process is completed entirely online, and takes between 10-20 minutes to fill out. Before you can submit your renewal application though, you must speak with a doctor.
When to renew your medical marijuana card
When looking at the front of your medical marijuana card, you’ll notice the expiration date is at the bottom. You’re allowed to renew up to two months, or 60 days, in advance. When you renew early, you don’t lose any time on your card. The current expiration date will simply be pushed out three years. For example, if your card expires 01/01/2023, it will now expire on 01/01/2026 no matter when you submit the renewal application.
The Department of Health and Senior Services will also remind you via email when it’s time to renew. These emails come from MMMP. You’ll receive these emails at the 60, 45, 30, and 15 day notice. You can renew your medical marijuana card at any point BEFORE the expiration date, but we recommend you submit your renewal application at least 30 days before the expiration date. That way the state has plenty of time to process your application before your current card expires. If you submit your renewal application less than 30 days in advance, there is a chance that you will have a lapse between when your old card expired and when your new card begins.
What to prepare
Missouri Medical Marijuana Portal (MMMP) Login: Make sure you can still access your account on the state website. You can try logging in here. If you’ve forgotten your password, click the “forgot password” button and enter your email to get a reset link.
Physician Recertification: Schedule a renewal appointment with a licensed medical marijuana doctor. The doctor will fill out and submit your recertification form directly to the state. Our team at Missouri Cannabis Clinic would be happy to help! You can do your renewal appointment entirely over the phone by signing up here.
Additional Documents: When you submit your renewal application on the MMMP website, you’ll need to provide a couple other things. You’ll be asked to upload a recent color photo that clearly shows your face, as well as a picture of your government-issued ID. The ID does not have to be Missouri-issued, and it is alright if it is expired.
How to submit a renewal application
After logging into your MMMP account, click the “Create New Application” button on the left hand side of the screen. Click on “I am a” to access the drop down menu, and you’ll select “patient.” Then, select “patient renewal.” Next, you’ll be asked to select your license number. Most people have only one option to choose, but if there’s multiple options, make sure it matches the number on your card.
From here, the process is very similar to the initial new patient application. Follow each of the application steps, including updating any information and uploading your photos. Sometimes, people struggle with the “Physician Information” section. You actually don’t fill out any of this information, the doctor does this step. You just need to click the green rectangular button that says “View Available Certifications.” Then, select the name of the doctor you met with. After you’ve completed this step, all of the information will appear on the screen.
